Stephen Spring

At 44, Stephen Spring is one of Australia's foremost specialty retail consultants and retail lease coaches. A former retailer, he opened his first shop in his early 20's after spending high school years working in shops before and after school. After a stint with Grace Bros, he teamed up with a prominent Sydney property developer who developed shopping centres and innovative mixed use property developments.
After owning and developing shops for 16 years, he now heads up Australian Retail Lease Management, a specialty shop location, lease management and retail property positioning advisory. He is retail policy advisor for the Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia COSBOA and an industry member of the review committee of the Retail Leases Act (NSW). He has also assisted the Franchise Council of Australia.
He has helped numerous retailers both small and large scale in landlord disputes, representations at the Administrative Decisions Tribunal, mediations, repositioning, restructures and business turnarounds and overseas a portfolio of hundreds of retail leases across most industry sectors. He's an advocate, industry advisor and expert witness for tenants and has written for Inside Retailing, My Business Magazine, Franchising Magazine, Dynamic Small Business and many other retail industry publications.
